Asset management data collection

Asset management can be carried out to varying degrees by different financial service providers. FINMA collects data annually from all financial service providers authorised by FINMA on their asset management activities in the areas of portfolio management, investment advice and execution-only services in accordance with Article 3 let. c FinSA, as well as trustee activities.

These key figures collected according to uniform criteria provide an overview of market distribution and facilitate a differentiated assessment of market participants. They enable FINMA to better assess the risk situation of the asset management activities of all supervised financial intermediaries because they enable comparisons to be drawn between licence types, institutions and business models and thus support risk-oriented supervision. FINMA can thus exercise its supervision of asset management activities consistently, proportionately and independently of the type of licence in question and address the associated risks where they are material.

The data collection group includes all insurance companies, banks, securities firms, portfolio managers and trustees that provide financial services in Switzerland. Data from fund management companies and managers of collective assets is collected in a separate survey (cf. GB-A data collection).

The following surveys are published on the EHP annually in early May, and the deadline for submission is the end of June:
