Financial condition report

Insurance companies and groups disclose standardised information on their business situation in the financial condition report.

The publication of standardised information promotes improved market transparency to increase market discipline and, as a result, improve policyholder protection.

Insurance companies must publish the financial condition report and submit it to FINMA annually (by 30 April at the latest). The report contains a text component with information on the insurance company's or group's financial and risk situation and the quantitative templates issued by FINMA for group/conglomerate performance, market-consistent balance sheet and solvency. The report has the following chapters:

  • Business activities;
  • Performance;
  • Risk management and its appropriateness;
  • Risk profile;
  • The principles and methods used to value the reserves in particular;
  • Capital management;
  • Solvency.
