Financial condition report

Insurance companies and groups disclose standardised information on their business situation in the financial condition report.

The publication of standardised information seeks to improve market transparency. This is intended to increase market discipline and, as a result, improve policyholder protection.

Insurance companies must publish the annual financial condition report and submit it to FINMA by 30 April at the latest. As specified by FINMA, the report contains a text component with information on the insurance company's or group's financial and risk situation and quantitative information on the group/conglomerate performance, market-consistent balance sheet and solvency. The report has the following chapters:

  • Business activities;
  • Performance;
  • Risk management and its appropriateness;
  • Risk profile;
  • The principles and methods used for valuation, in particular of the reserves;
  • Capital management;
  • Solvency.
