The FINMA Board of Directors has named Birgit Rutishauser as the new Head of the Insurance division and a member of the Executive Board with effect from 17 September 2018. The 46-year-old mathematician and actuary has managed the Risk Management section of the Insurance division since June 2016. FINMA CEO Mark Branson: “I would like to thank Peter Giger for all the work he has done for FINMA over the years. He introduced significant changes in insurance supervision and gave the division a new organisation and focus. Under his leadership, the model landscape for the Swiss solvency system for insurers was extensively renewed and supervision became more effective and risk-oriented. We very much regret his decision to leave FINMA and wish him every success in the future. At the same time, we are delighted to have a proven insurance expert in Birgit Rutishauser as his successor. She has industry experience and in-depth knowledge of FINMA's organisation and processes."
The Insurance division has about one hundred employees and is responsible for supervising in the region of 200 insurance companies and insurance groups/conglomerates.
