As the then director of the Federal Office of Private Insurance, Ms Mächler assisted in its incorporation into FINMA; as a member of the FINMA Board of Directors and of important international committees for insurance supervision, she has since made a significant contribution to developing and establishing the supervisory authority. The Federal Council will decide at a later stage about the appointment of a new vice-chair.
Monica Mächler was appointed in 2007 as director of the Federal Office of Private Insurance (FOPI). In 2009, she became vice-chair of the FINMA Board of Directors. Commenting on the announcement of her resignation, the Chair of FINMA, Anne Héritier Lachat said: "On behalf of my colleagues and FINMA, I would like to thank Monica Mächler for the great commitment she showed to our supervisory authority at a challenging time. We are glad that we can count on her broad expertise until the end of September."
