Periodic collection of data

As part of its supervisory activites, FINMA periodically collects relevant data from the institutions it supervises in line with the requirements set out in financial market law and the Financial Market Supervisory Act (FINMASA). Upon request, supervised institutions are also obliged to provide FINMA with additional information and to meet their regulatory reporting requirements.

FINMA obtains relevant data from banks, securities dealers and financial groups either directly or indirectly via the Swiss National Bank (the SNB) and regulatory audit firms.

The SNB provides information and standard electronic forms for data collection on its website. Before forwarding the data to FINMA, the SNB verifies and prepares the data, which is treated confidentially. This avoids any duplication of work, particularly for the supervised instituions.
